The legendary McRib sandwich has made its long-awaited return to McDonald's, available for a limited time starting today (16 October).
However, the iconic sandwich won’t be a permanent fixture on the menu. It’s back for just a few weeks, marking its first appearance in the UK since December 2014.
The McRib was initially introduced to the UK back in 1981, only to be discontinued in 1985, with a few brief comebacks over the years. McDonald's hasn’t provided a specific reason for its return after nearly a decade, but fans aren’t asking questions—they’re lining up, whether at the counter or the drive-thru.
One thing’s for sure, though: the return is temporary.
The sandwich, known for its loyal fanbase, costs £4.49 on its own, or £6.19 for a medium meal with fries and a drink.
Thomas O'Neill, McDonald's UK Head of Menu, commented on the comeback, saying: “The McRib is more than just a sandwich—it’s a phenomenon. We’ve heard the fan petitions and pleas, and after nearly ten years, we’re thrilled to bring this iconic item back.”
He added that given how beloved the McRib is, they had no choice but to respond to the demand and "satisfy the cravings of McRib lovers across the country."
As for why it won’t be a permanent menu item, McDonald's cited the logistical challenges of cooking it alongside its other offerings. Separate cooking processes and dedicated utensils are required to avoid mixing pork and beef, limiting capacity.
A spokesperson explained: “The McRib is a limited-edition product, and we’ll serve it while stocks last. In the UK, it’s important to us to separate pork and beef on the grill, so we've implemented specific processes to make sure McRib fans can enjoy it safely.”
The McRib will be available until 12 December, giving fans a limited window to enjoy it.
